As the sun lifts its glory above the eastern horizon, the heat of the day begins to build. Within hours the day will be heavy with humidity. Some people call these the "dog days of summer" and that brings to my mind the days of my youth growing up on the family farm. In my mind, I can see the dogs sprawled on the grass in the shade of tall trees, yet panting heavily as they yearn for relief from the hot and humid air. The best activity, was no activity. It was a good time to sit quietly and watch the world, or perhaps to sit and read a good book. Time seemed to slow and yet the world grew.
Those memories bring a smile to my face. Enjoy these sultry days of summer as you slow down and look at the world around you.
