The leaves have turned color and fallen from the trees. The waters have cooled and soon will be freezing. The sun rides low in the southern sky and does not give much warmth. Living in the northland, we know the cold days of winter are coming.
Yet seeing the sun gives us hope. The wheel of time will turn and the cycles of the seasons will bring warmth again. I wonder if the refugee, who is today fleeing the terrorist, sees us in our distant land as the sun. Does our compassion for them give them promise and hope for the future. Hard times now, but with warmer days to come. I hope we are, and I hope she does.
